Administering of your Company’s Project Management System for Standardization and Reliability

PMI College of Scheduling 2010 in Calgary on May 2-5

Dennis D. Lane, Principal Consultant with Accelerated PM, LLC

ABSTRACT

Companies invest tremendously in their project management systems and yet leave so much room for improvement when it comes to getting the most benefit from the system.  It takes a managed and informed effort to create a more mature organization that can look across their projects and spend time on the real project issues instead of wrestling with inconsistent terminology, coding, and reporting techniques.  Many companies have people in charge of the standardization and process control, but they may not have what they need to get the job done.  The focus of this presentation will be on success for the Administrator and company, using examples from Oracle’s Primavera P6 v7. The concepts and approach will benefit the company regardless of enterprise tool.  Additionally, the presenter will show how to properly import data into the project management system to avoid creation or changes to managed or interfaced codes, resources, etc. We’ll share practical methods to monitor and manage the configuration of your PM System, to allow for integrated schedules among a multi-company team or within a supply chain.
